Roughly 120 Sioux Valley Dakota Nation homes will be without running water from midnight Wednesday until 6 a.m. Thursday morning.
Sioux Valley Dakota Nation Chief Vince Tacan told the Sun they’ve discovered a break in the community’s waterline caused by frost buildup. In order to fix the problem, Tacan said they will have to turn off the waterline overnight.
"We’ve found where we think it was broken and repairs are being looked at today," Tacan said, adding the community’s Head Start to Grade 6 school is closed today due to the repairs but will be reopened tomorrow.
Tacan said he hopes the roughly 120 homes connected to the community’s waterline will only be without water overnight.
"We don’t know how long it will take," he said. "We’re hoping it’s a simple fix."
Tacan said they plan to update those without water on their progress via their website, svdngovernance.com.
