The city will hold back its malathion trucks for another week as mosquito counts in Brandon continue to plummet.
Traps across the city caught fewer mosquitoes this past weekend than they did the week before, and the city remains in the "Low" category of their adulticiding factor analysis.
That AFA number takes into account mosquito trap numbers, but also the weather and mosquito lifecycles, in determining whether fogging with insecticide is worthwhile.
The city collects mosquitos in five separate traps, and counts them on Sundays and Mondays through the summer. This past count saw a low of just 14 mosquitoes caught at the Brandon University gym on Sunday, and a high of 168 caught at the Brandon Municipal Cemetery, also on Sunday.
Updated trap counts are always available on the Brandon Sun's interactive mosquito-tracking map: bdnsun.ca/SkeeterMap.
