Slippery streets after snow, mild afternoon in store

A couple centimentres of snow overnight left Brandon area roads plenty slippery this morning. There are reports of vehicles in the ditch and collisions from across Westman — including a head-on crash on Veterans Way that sent more than one person to hospital, although their injuries were not believed to be serious.

City and provincial crews were working hard to clear and sand the worst sections of streets, such as curves and intersections.

Most highways remain partly snow covered this morning, with some snow swirling in traffic, although visibility has improved.

Environment Canada says that the snow has ended for today, but the clouds will stick around, and afternoon temperatures should make perfect snowball weather, as Brandon heads to an afternoon high of -4 C.

Skies may partly clear this evening, with a low expected of -15 C. Tomorrow, with a high of -11 C and moderate winds in the afternoon, will be mild as well, although not as mild as today.

Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be sunny, with cooler afternoons. Highs both days are predicted to be about -20 C.

The normal high for this time of year is -10 C. The normal low is -21 C.
