City crews are once again knocking at doors to change the batteries in water meters.
The meters transmit water use data wirelessly and need a fresh battery only about once a decade. Normally, crews rotate through different areas of the city to replace the batteries on a cycle, but this year the batteries that need replacement are spread out all over.
Staff with the water meter department will be working Monday to Friday between noon and 8 p.m. to change out the batteries and the whole process takes only about five minutes. However, workers will require access to the home or business where the water meter is.
All city workers will have clearly displayed ID as they make their rounds. Anyone with concerns should contact the Brandon public works department at 204-729-2290.
