RCMP officers from Carberry raided the home around 3 p.m. and discovered a "small but sophisticated" operation inside.

They seized 53 marijuana plants in various stages of growth along with more than 100 grams of raw marijuana bud, three grams of marijuana oil and about 735 grams of leaves that police say were intended to make oil.

Also discovered in the home was a small quantity of cocaine and an extensive collection of marijuana production and traficking equipment.

All told, police estimate that the drugs seized were worth about $53,000.

A 35-year-old Wellwood man is to appear in Brandon court on May 9, facing charges of production of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking, and possession of a controlled substance.

Wellwood is located about 10 miles north of Carberry, just east of Highway 5.
