Spotted without seatbelt, driver found also drunk and with weapons

Police who pulled over a driver who was spotted not wearing a seatbelt found quite a bit more.

The man was seen behind the wheel of a vehicle in the 1700-block of College Avenue at around 10 a.m. on Thursday, but didn't appear to be wearing a seatbelt.

When officers pulled him over, they say they could smell liquor in the vehicle and that he showed signs of intoxication. An open bottle of liquor was found inside the vehicle and the man was also found in possession of several edged weapons.

After being arrested, the man provided samples of his breath which showed an alcohol content that was over the legal limit. Police say he wa also bound by a court order to abstain from alcohol and to not possess any weapons.

A 48-year-old man from Maryfield, Sask., was to appear in court this morning on charges of impaired driving, three counts of breaching his probation, failing to wear a seatbelt, and having liquor in an unauthorized place.
