Steinbach to take torch from Swan Valley as host to Manitoba summer games

Steinbach will host the Manitoba summer games in 2016, Sport Manitoba announced Monday.

With the successful bid and evaluation of facilities, Steinbach will take the "torch" from Swan Valley, who hosted the last Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games in 2012. The games will be held August 7-13, 2016.

"We are thrilled and honoured to be chosen to host the 2016 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games," said Trish Enns, co-chair of the Steinbach Bid Committee, in a media release. "We are excited to play a role in the development of our provinces athletes, and to foster pride in our community and region."

The games will host events such as athletics, baseball, basketball, cycling, gold, sailing, soccer, softball, swimming, triathlon and volleyball, with up to 1,800 participating athletes.
