Stolen SUV found after crash

Two young women face charges after allegedly taking an SUV without permission and crashing it.

Police say they were called this morning by a resident of the 1200-block of 26th Street who said his 2012 Kia Sorento had been stolen overnight.

He says his SUV was taken sometime between 10:30 p.m. and 3:30 a.m. and he told police it was an acquaintance of his who had stolen it.

The vehicle was found by staff at a business in the 6300-block of Richmond Avenue East at about 3:30 a.m., after it had been involved in a single-vehicle crash.

The alleged driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old Brandon woman, later provided police with samples of her breath that were over the legal limit. She faces charges of impaired driving and will appear in court on Sept. 24.

Her 19-year-old female passenger faces charges of theft of a motor vehicle, and will appear in court on Nov. 8.
