Brandon police have recovered a stolen police truck, but they say a revolver is missing from inside.

The 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe belongs to the RM of Whitehead police service and was parked on the 1000-block of Victoria Avenue East when it was stolen sometime overnight Saturday.

The truck was reported stolen Sunday morning at about 10 a.m. and police now say that an abandoned vehicle was reported to them late that day, which turned out to be the stolen truck. It had been left in an alleyway at the rear of a business on Park Avenue, west of 18th Street.

Brandon police have since completed a forensic examination followed by a vehicle inventory, and now say that a revolver is missing from inside the truck.

It's described as a .22 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver, which was secured in a locked case within the vehicle.

Police continue to investigate but they urge anyone with information on the crime to call them directly or to contact Crime Stoppers.

Like to know how they stole the vehicle. And what is a gun doing in there?

Well I guess the officer(s) responsible for this have just had their lives ruined. When the crown attorney gets through with them they will be criminals for the rest of their lives unless they are lucky enough to get a pardon. It's too bad the Firearms Act is what it is, a draconian rape of people's rights and an abuse of law, but hey, it's sooooo right and proper.

This will be the only cop in the world who uses a .22 revolver as his issue weapon, then. And anybody else who left a restricted firearm in a vehicle would face the total seizure of all their firearms, along with a 10+ year ban on owning guns, plus fines. We'll see if the police are held to the same standards as those they are supposed to serve.

A .22? Really? Also, who leaves a handgun in a vehicle? Yeesh.
