Sales of single detached homes in and around Brandon soared in January, according to the Canadian Real Estate Association.
Some 43 single detached homes were sold in the Brandon area in January, which is 27 per cent higher than the year before.
Also, homes are changing hands at a lower price. The median sale price for single detached homes was $219,900 this past January, a 12 per cent decrease from the January prior. The CREA says that price is often quite volatile during winter months, when fewer homes are on the market.
Single detached properties took a little longer to sell than they had a year earlier. The median number of days on market for single detached home sales rose by seven days this past January, to 40.
All told, $9.6 million worth of homes were sold in January 2014, some seven per cent higher than the year earlier and a record for the month of January.
