Culinary Arts students from Assiniboine Community College will be put to the test this morning as they craft unique dishes — without knowing the ingredients they'll be using.
The "black box" competition, an annual event by the Manitoba Canola Growers Association, began at 9 a.m. when chefs were presented with the mystery ingredients. Those ingredients were revealed to be cod, bacon and chicken when the boxes were opened. Students will also have an open pantry for cheese and produce, and will of course be using canola oil.
Students have a limited time to whip up something that's not just tasty, but also appeals to the eye with good presentation.
The student's dishes will be judged by a four-person panel.
