Student threat unfounded: Brandon Police

Rumours that a student threatened to take a weapon to a high school in the Brandon School Division have proven untrue, according to the Brandon Police Service.

As the Sun reported on Thursday, access to the city's three senior high schools was restricted on Wednesday due to what was termed a "safety and security" issue.

CKLQ had reported that a source had told the station a student had threatened to take weapons to "a high school,"  a situation that prompted the school division to restrict Crocus Plains, Vincent Massey and Neelin high schools to primary access only. This meant students were to enter and exit each building through one main door. The schools were not under lockdown and classes continued as usual.

On Thursday, BPS issued a press release stating that the school division had contacted police over rumours that a male youth may be in possession of a weapon, a concern that was based on comments that the youth had allegedly made earlier in the year.

None of the comments involved any type of threat and there was no mention of taking the weapon to school. The matter was investigated, and police say it is now believed to be unfounded.
