Students getting ready for science fair

Some 500 students are expected next month at one of the largest regional science fairs in Canada, held each year in Brandon.

The Western Manitoba Regional Science Fair, scheduled for March 19 in the Manitoba Room at the Keystone Centre, is extpected to draw about 350 entries from all over the western part of the province, representing Grades 1 through 12.

Donors and corporate sponsors have provided about $8,000 in speial awards, ranging from cash, books and trophies to trips — both to the Canada Wide Science Fair, held this year in Lethbidge in May, and the Twchnology Symposium in Saskatoon.

There are two awards ceremonies, one at 4:30 p.m. for Grade 1–4 and another at 5:30 p.m. for Grades 5–12. Both take place in the UCT Pavilion.

The science fair is open to the public from 2–5:30 p.m., following the main judging. Admission is free, and students will be present to share their projects with visitors.
