Summer job applications start tomorrow

It may be 30-below with a screaming windchill, but the federal government would like to assure you that summer is coming.

In fact, organizations that want Ottawa's help in hiring summer students had better get cracking — applications for funding for this year's Canada Summer Jobs program open tomorrow and will only be accepted until the end of February.

More than a quarter-million dollars is available for organizations in Brandon–Souris.

"Our government’s top priority remains the economy and the summer jobs program will directly support students and local organizations," said Merv Tweed, the Conservative MP for Brandon-Souris. "I encourage employers in Brandon-Souris who are eligible for this program to get involved and help create employment opportunities for young Canadians."

Funding is available to community based organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses to create high-quality summer job opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 years who are full-time students and intend to return to school in the next year.

Interested employers can apply online at www.servicecanada.gc.ca/csj2013 or at their local Service Canada Centre.
