Summer starts now — Brandon Sun patio guide 2014

Cool places for when the weather is hot

Ready for summer? We've got your patios covered.

Although the summers are short, Brandon knows how to take advantage. And that’s in plain sight when you start looking for a place to relax outdoors with refreshments and snacks.

Because I drew the short straw, I’ve spent the last week trying to visit every outdoor patio in town.

Unfortunately, there are just too many to fit on one page, and weather took a toll on my time, so I’ve had to focus on those that serve adult beverages.

That means no ice cream parlours, and I’ve also had to take a pass on those that are primarily smoking areas for nightclubs, or those that mostly serve golf courses.

That still leaves nearly a dozen places where I’ve sampled the beer and nachos. You try to fit that into a week.

With luck, this guide rings true when you read about your favourite watering holes, and alerts you to a few you have yet to try. It certainly got me out of my routine — but it’s great to report that I was served promptly and happily at every single patio I went to. I would go back to each and every one of them.  (How about it, boss?)

Nowhere did I identify myself as a reporter, though I’m sure some of the servers figured it out when I quizzed them on their best-selling drinks and apps.

What did I miss? Should the Sun send me out of town to check in on all of Westman? Give me a shout and let me know.
