Survey results track residents' opinion on growing immigrant population

The City of Brandon released results of a Probe Research study Friday, which asked residents for their thoughts on how the arrival of immigrants has impacted the community.

Nearly two-thirds (64 per cent) of respondents felt the city's growing immigrant population has had a positive impact, while one quarter (25 per cent) felt that the new arrivals have had no effect on the community.

Ten per cent of respondents said the arrival of immigrants has had a negative effect.

"The growth in immigration has taken our work to a whole new level in Brandon," said Hope Roberts, chair of the Brandon Cultural Awareness Network. "Not only are we organizing more multicultural events and celebrations, we are engaging in deeper conversations about diversity, cultural awareness, inclusion and understanding. We are a better community today because of the growth of imimgration in our city and region."
