UPDATE: City announces settlement with firefighters' union

The City of Brandon officially announced a comprehensive settlement with the Brandon Professional Firefighters'/Paramedics Association this afternoon.

According to the press release, the settlement resolves all outstanding matters before the Manitoba Labour Board as well as a number of related arbitrations.

"Officials from both sides have acknowledged to each other that actions were taken by each that were not appropriate and which resulted in the ongoing conflict," the release states. "With the settlement, both sides have committed to striving for good and respectful relations with each other in their respective roles in the future and believe that this resolution will make such a relationship possible."

Brandon Fire Chief Brent Dane was scheduled to testify at an unfair labour practice arbitration that was to resume today. That hearing did not take place.

The unfair labour practice was dealing with a complaint filed after Ritchie was suspended for actions the city and the Brandon Fire and Emergency Services deemed to be deceitful conduct during an early stage of collective agreement negotiations.

Details of the settlement have not yet been released.
