The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police in partnership with Transport Canada is sponsoring Operation Impact, a national coast to coast traffic safety and enforcement initiative.

These agencies are part of Road Safety Strategy 2015, which has a goal of making Canada’s roads the safest in the world by 2015.

Operation Impact aims to save lives during the Thanksgiving weekend, officials stated in a relase Wednesday.

Tragically, every year the improper use of our highways and roads results in staggering numbers of deaths across the country.

These life-costing driving behaviours continue to fall into four main categories:

• Drinking and driving.

• Failing to use seat belts or child restraints.

• Distracted driving.

• Other aggressive or high risk driving which may result in a collision, such as  speeding or intersection violations.

The Brandon Police Service is proud to participate in this life-saving strategy.

The focus or objective of Operation Impact is to identify high risk driving behaviours, bring then to the public’s attention and direct intensive enforcement efforts at offenders who display these and other poor driving habits.

Brandon Police Service will be conducting random Check Stops throughout the Thanksgiving weekend, from Oct. 5 through Oct. 8.
