Three Manitoban recording artists have racked up a total of four nominations for the 2013 Juno Awards, which will be handed out in April in Regina.

Winnipeg singer-songwriter Don Amero received the first Juno nomination of his career for Heart On My Sleeve, which received a nod in the aboriginal album category. He faces competition from rock band Burnt Project 1, which received its third career nomination for The Black List.

"It lets you know you’re on the right track and pushes you to the next place," Amero said in an interview, placing the nomination in context. "I don’t think there’s any award that paves the way for the rest of your life."

Violinist James Ehnes, formerly of Brandon, is nominated in two categories: classical recording: large ensemble or soloist with large-ensemble accompaniment, for Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto; and classical album of the year: solo or chamber ensemble, for Bartók: Works for Violin and Piano, Vol. 1. Ehnes has been nominated on numerous previous occasions.

The award ceremonies will be held on April 20 and 21 in the Saskatchewan capital.
