Thunderstorm watch issued for Westman

Environment Canada is saying that severe thunderstorm conditions are possible late this afternoon to evening. They have issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Westman.

Forecasters say that conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, damaging hail and heavy rain.

Strong thunderstorms are expected to develop over southwestern Manitoba late this afternoon, producing locally heavy rainfall, small hail and wind gusts to 90 km/h. These thunderstorms are expected to weaken this evening.

Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury, they warn, adding that severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.

Environment Canada meteorologists will update their alerts as required, but say that people can report severe weather to them by calling 1-800-239-0484, emailing storm@ec.gc.ca or tweeting reports with the hashtag #MBStorm.
