Brandon Sun - ONLINE EDITION

Today: Milder temps, but snow and wind

Did you, like a certain employee of the Brandon Sun, have to struggle with jumpstarting a car in the pre-dawn hours this morning, as temperatures in the low -20s leached all feeling from his fingers and toes?

Then you'll be heartened to learn that the mercury will rise, rise, rise today — with Environment Canada calling for a high of -4 C this afternoon.

Light snow is also expected this afternoon, although winds will pick up around noon, reaching 30–40 km/h from the west, with gusts of up to 70 km/h.

Those gusts will die down around midnight, as temperatures fall to around -17 C, which doesn't sound like it's cold enough to plug in your car, but you've probably learned your lesson, right?

Tomorrow will be cloudy, with a 60 per cent chance of flurries in the morning and early afternoon. It won't be as mild as forecasters were predicting just yesterday: the Wednesday high will be -15 C.

Thursday will be sunny, with a high of -14 C and a low of -20 C. Clouds are slated to return for Friday, bringing with them a chance of more flurries, and a high of -9 C, with a low of -18 C.

The current forecast for the weekend shows a mix of sun and cloud on Saturday, with temperatures hovering around -9 C, then sunnier but colder on Sunday.

The normal high for this time of year is -12 C, the normal low is -23 C.
