Strange lights in the sky over Shilo? Don't call the UFO theorists — it's just search-and-rescue training.
Night exercises will be conducted Thursday evening by 435 Transport and Rescue Squadron, which will be dropping flares as part of the training.
They'll be practicing all aspects of night search and rescue operations at the Shilo range, which is southeast of the base itself, west of Highway 238.
The squadron, part of 17 Wing in Winnipeg, shares responsibility with another squadron in Trenton, Ont., for search and rescue operations between Quebec City and the British Columbia/Alberta border and all the way up to the North Pole. That's the largest search-and-rescue region in Canada.
