Two Brandon Police Service officers have been charged under the Highway Traffic Act following an investigation by the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba.
On Sept. 13, the IIU announced it was investigating an incident after an "intoxicated man" was injured while being escorted to the Brandon Correctional Centre on Sept. 10. The victim hit his head on the interior of the car, resulting in a small laceration over his left eye, according to the IIU release. Furthermore, while en route to the jail, the police car that he was being transported in was hit from behind by another police vehicle.
As a result, one officer was charged with driving carelessly while a second officer was charged with driving imprudently.
Both will appear in Brandon court in April.
