Two Westman highways 'downright dangerous' says CAA
Between Deloraine and the Goodlands border crossing, Highway 21 is in such poor condition that it's up to No. 5 on a CAA contest to determine Manitoba's worst roads.
Considering the small population in the area relative to Winnipeg — the other nine roads on the Top 10 list are all from the capital — it shows just how bad Highway 21 really is. That's why, according to a press release issued this morning, CAA staff took a drive out to the area to see its condition first-hand.
"What we saw told us some Manitoba highways need improvement just as much as the roads in our cities," said Liz Peters, CAA Public and Government Affairs Manager. "Both Highway 21 and 10 south of Brandon are beyond being a bumpy frustration. Their deteriorating condition is downright dangerous."
There are two weeks to go in CAA Manitoba’s Worst Roads campaign, which was launched on March 27. The campaign gives Manitobans a chance to vote for which crumbling, congested or unsafe road they think needs to be fixed first. When the campaign wraps up on April 24, the results will be tabulated and presented to local and regional governments.
"Almost 3000 votes have already been cast on 429 different roads in our province," said Mike Mager, CAA Manitoba President and CEO. "They can’t all be fixed overnight, but when that many people log on to vote, it tells us they care about the condition of their roads."
Voters can go to www.caamanitoba.com/worstroads to cast a vote.
