Two collisions, two impaired drivers

Two crashes within half an hour of each other early Sunday morning both resulted in impaired driving charges, police say.

The first happened just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday, when police got a report that a truck had just been in a collision on Queen's Avenue, near the No. 2 Fire Hall. The dark-coloured Ford F-150 had collided with an unknown object and was found abandoned in the 1300-block of Sixth Street. However, police say they found the driver nearby. He showed signs of intoxication and was arrested, later providing breath samples that showed a blood-alcohol content over the legal limit.

Later that same morning, just before 2 a.m. on Sunday, a two-vehicle collision was reported at 26th Street and Victoria Avenue. Two males had apparently gotten out of one of the vehicles and had run off, to the north.

Police cordoned off the area and brought out the canine unit, which managed to track down the suspected driver a short distance away. He appeared intoxicated and was arrested, later supplying breath samples showing an alcohol content more than double the legal limit.
