Two construction sites slow park traffic in Riding Mountain

Construction has begun in two places on Highway 10 through Riding Mountain National Park and motorists are being warned to expect delays.

Road work is being done at kilometre 49 of the highway, as well as at the Grayling Lake divide. There are a number of posted warnings, flag workers and pilot vehicles at both construction sites. As well, loose flying stones are a possibility both during and after construction, so drivers are being cautions to slow down while meeting and passing other vehicles.

The construction zone at kilometre 49 extends 12 km south on Highway 10 from the north park boundary to the Hilton Trail Head, while the construction zone at the Grayling Lake divide begins about 20 km from the south park boundary and extends 3 km north. During construction traffic may be reduced to one lane and motorists should expect delays and are asked to make appropriate preparations in advance of travelling.

With good weather, the construction work at the Grayling Lake divide is expected to be complete by the end of the month, but the work at kilometre 49 is expected to last until early October.
