Firefighters from Brandon Fire and Emergency Services battle to extinguish a car engulfed in flames on Grand Valley Road near the Trans-Canada Highway on Tuesday.

Alcohol and speed are being investigated as contributing factors to a fiery crash on Grand Valley Road west of Brandon yesterday.

RCMP officers from three detachments were called out to the crash just before 5 p.m. A 2005 Chevy Blazer, which had been heading west on the road, lost control and rolled into the south ditch.

The driver and a passenger in the Blazer were able to escape before it caught fire. A Brandon Sun reporter at the scene captured photos of the ensuing explosion as firefighters battled the flames.

The driver, a 20-year-old Brandon man, and his passenger, a 21-year-old man from Westman, were transported to hospital where they were treated and later released.

The crash remains under investigation with assistance from a RCMP traffic analyst.
