Unger wins Tamarack men's championship

Few people picked Brandon’s Dave Unger to win the Tamarack men’s championship, but he proved them wrong on Saturday.

Unger beat Brandon native Josh McPhail 2 and 1 to claim his first title from the eight-day golf tournament played at the Clear Lake Golf Course.

In the women’s final, Winnipeg’s Sarah Stebeleski won three of the final five holes to beat Brandon’s Kaitlin Troop 1 up.

Paul Solon lost the first hole in the senior men’s final but grabbed a lead he wouldn’t give up on the third as he beat fellow Brandonite Ken Hoy 4 and 3.

Erickson’s Bobbi-Rae Uhl became the youngest junior girls champion after defeating Dauphin’s Jessi Rampton 5 and 4.

La Salle’s Steve Young successfully defended his junior boys title courtesy of a 2 up win over North Dakota’s Nick Myhre.
