Van disappears after sideswiping semi

Mounties are looking for a dark-coloured minivan after a semi truck was sideswiped on the highway.

Officers were called to Highway 83 south of Swan River at about 10:45 p.m. Thursday night after reports of the collision. They say the semi truck was headed north on the highway when a southbound vehicle drifted into the oncoming lane.

The sides of the two vehicles collided, but the southbound vehicle — described as a possibly dark red or burgandy Chevrolet Venture — didn't stop. The semi had minimal damage on the truck, and no damage to the trailer, and the driver was not injured.

Police patrols failed to find southbound vehicle. Officers say they are treating it as a hit and run, and are continuing to investigate, but say poor weather could be a factor.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Swan River RCMP at 204-734-4686 or to an anonymou tip through Crimestoppers.
