Brandon Sun - ONLINE EDITION

Very cold today and through the weekend

Cold, cold and cold. That's the forecast, with one significant exception.

Environment Canada is calling for a high of -20ºC this afternoon, and that's the warmest it'll be until Christmas Eve.

Clear skies this morning should partly cloud over through the day, and there's a small chance of a few flurries late this afternoon or into the evening.

Skies will clear around midnight, and the temperature will head further down, to a low overnight of -29ºC.

Tomorrow should see a mix of sun and cloud in the morning, clearing in the afternoon, and a high of -24ºC. Winds of up to 15 km/h will push the wind chill to -39.

Sunny skies are expected for Sunday, with a high of -22ºC, followed by more sun and a high of -20ºC on Monday.

A Christmas miracle is set for a day early this year. The Christmas Eve forecast calls for a high of -4ºC with a 60 per cent chance of flurries.

But that's one day only. Christmas Day will dawn clear and cold, with a high of -20ºC despite the sun.

At this point, Boxing Day looks like it will see a high of -17ºC, with sunny skies for bargain hunters.

The normal high for this time of year is -11ºC; the normal low is -21ºC.

The coldest it's ever been on this date was in 1989, when it was -38.6ºC. The warmest ever was in 2004, when it was 3.7ºC.
