Brandon Sun - ONLINE EDITION
Very cold today and tonight, brief relief by Saturday
Huddle up and stay inside with the furnace cranked.
Environment Canada is warning of extreme wind chills today and tonight, as another shot of cold Arctic air pushes the temperature below -30 C.
Combined with 20-30 km/h winds, this will result in wind chill values of -40 to -45 that will persist throughout most of the day. At these extreme values, frostbite on exposed skin may occur in less than 10 minutes.
The wind chill will moderate slightly this afternoon as temperatures recover a few degrees toa forecast high of -28 C, but there will still be a risk for dangerous wind chills to return tonight as temperatures drop into the -30s again.
Tomorrow will dawn sunny, with clouds rolling in closer to the evening, and temperatures will moderate slightly to a high of -19 C.
Saturday will be even nicer, with a predicted high of -6 C for the fial day of the Lieutenant Governor's Winter Festival.
There's a good chance of flurries on Sunday and into next week, with highs around -13 C.
The normal high for this time of year is -10 C, the normal low is -21 C.
