Get ready for some traffic mayhem.
As provincial road crews rip up and completely rebuild a mile of Victoria Avenue, the city will be working to replace water mains and historic lead service pipes as they go — forcing complete closures of part of Victoria through much of the summer.
That starts Monday, May 26, at 7 a.m., as crews will begin digging up Victoria between 12th Street and 18th Street.
That stretch of road will be fully closed until nearly the end of June (the city estimates June 23) forcing drivers to detour around to Park, Princess or Rosser avenues, via either 10th Street or 18th Street.
After they are through with those upgrades, crews will move east. Victoria Avenue is expected to be fully rebuilt all the way between First Street and 18th Street by the end of the summer.
