New exterior doors and better insulation will help the Wawanesa and District Recreation Centre, thanks to money from the federal government that was announced yesterday.

The $6,500 contribution will help the centre, which is used extensivey in the winter for minor sports teams, hockey tournaments and curling bonspiels, become more energy efficient and reduce its operating costs.

"The Recreation Centre has already started to see some of the benefits thanks to the funding we have received," said Brent Cullen, chair of the centre's board. "The improved energy efficiency will reduce the complex’s operating costs and increase the comfort for all who use the facility."

The money was announced yesterday by Merv Tweed, the Conservative MP for Brandon–Souris.

"Our government is pleased to support infrastructure projects across this great country like the Wawanesa and District Recreation Centre," Tweed said.
