Wheaties take aim to help kids

Wheat Kings netminder Corbin Boes will be among the members of this year's Read to Succeed team.

The Brandon Wheat Kings and CIBC are excited to announce the return of the "CIBC Read to Succeed" Program for the 2012-13 Western Hockey League season.

The CIBC Read to Succeed Program emphasizes the importance of reading, receiving a quality education and lifelong learning. This program teaches early and middle years students that reading can be fun. Players from the Brandon Wheat Kings wish to set an example for middle grade students and promote the importance of literacy to students through classroom visits. Players spend time reading to students and answering questions.

The program will recognize students who achieve individualized classroom goals they have set with their teachers. They will then be presented with a complimentary ticket to an upcoming game at Westman Place. The objective of this reading program is to reward students that work hard and show initiative.

"CIBC cares about nurturing and educating Canada's children and young adults so they can build a better future. That is why we are proud to partner with the Brandon Wheat Kings reading program", CIBC official Tom Weber said Wednesday in a release.

Literacy is an area of great importance to the Brandon Wheat Kings organization and its players. Together we make a commitment each and every year to bring awareness to literacy through the CIBC Read to Succeed Program.

Last year, the Brandon Wheat Kings inspired more than 1000 students in thirty schools throughout western Manitoba. Several Wheat Kings including captain Ryan Pulock and netminder Corbin Boes will be among the members of this year's Read to Succeed team.
