Woman accused of crashing into bylaw enforcement vehicle

A woman accused of drunk driving crashed into a bylaw enforcement vehicle and then took off, police say.

Three separate calls reported the suspect to police Tuesday morning. The first came in just past 8:30 a.m., reporting a possible impaired driver on Victoria Avenue. But while police were still on the lookout for the suspect vehicle, a second call came in.

This time, at about 8:45 a.m., it was from an on-duty Brandon police bylaw enforcement officer, who said that her vehicle had been hit while parked in the 1000-block of Rosser Avenue.

As police went to the crash scene, they received a third call, this time reporting that a suspected impaired driver was westbound on Victoria, heading out of town.

All three calls reported the same description of the vehicle, including license plate, police say, and when they caught up to the vehicle, they say the driver displayed significant signs of impairment. A female passenger was also found in the vehicle, passed out.

Police say breath tests later showed the driver her a blood-alcohol that was more than three-and-a-half times the legal limit.

A 21-year-old Sioux Valley woman will appear in court on July 9 to face charges of impaired driving, drive over .08, drive while disqualified and drive without insurance.
