WAYNE GLOWACKI/ WINNIPEG FREE PRESS ARCHIVES Winnipeg police at the Balmoral Street rooming house Wednesday after the body of tenant Ron McKinnon was found Tuesday.

A resident of "murder mansion" has been charged with the beating death of another tenant earlier this week.

Winnipeg police said they charged Robert Steward Maier, 38, with manslaughter in connection with the death of Ron McKinnon.

McKinnon was found dead Tuesday afternoon in the Balmoral Street rooming house, the victim of a severe beating.

Police said they believe McKinnon, 54, was attacked the day before he died.

An investigation found McKinnon had been at a party at another suite in the rooming house Monday night when it's alleged he was attacked.

Other tenants helped McKinnon back to his own suite but left him there.

His body was found by another tenant Tuesday afternoon.

An autopsy concluded McKinnon died from the injuries he received in the attack Monday.

Police said Maier was arrested Thursday afternoon in the 500-block of Notre Dame Avenue.

He remained in custody Friday.

Neighbours call the rooming house "murder mansion" because two other homicides were committed there in 2008 and 2009.
