Local firefighters complete move to new home

Brandon Fire and Emergency Services moved out of the old Fire Hall No. 1 and into their new fire hall on Thursday. A public open house and tour will be held Wednesday, Sept. 8 from 1-5 p.m.

With one final lock of the door, Brandon Fire and Emergency Services personnel have entered a new chapter after nearly a century at Fire Hall No. 1 on Princess Avenue.

The fire trucks pulled out of the garage for the last time Thursday afternoon.

After weeks of ferrying everything from paperwork, and kitchen supplies to rubber hoses and first-aid kits, the move to their new $11-million home at the corner of 19th Street North and Maple Avenue is complete.

To celebrate the historic move, a public open house, which will include walking tours of the facility, is set for Sept. 8. The festivities, which also incorporate staff and services of its emergency communications centre, will take place between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The former No.1 Hall on Princess will continue to function as a backup location for E-911 dispatch until the city decides what to do with the property.
