Manitoba four invited to national hockey camp

A quartet of Manitoba women have been invited to Canada's national women's under-22 development team selection camp next month in Calgary.

Brigette Lacquette of Waterhen and the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Christine Bestland of Brunkild and Ste. Anne's Shelby Bram, both of whom play at Mercyhurst College, and Meghan Dufault of Winnipeg and Balmoral Hall are part of a 40-player roster announced Tuesday by Hockey Canada.

Hockey Canada will choose 22 players from the camp for a three-game series against the United States women's under-22 select team, scheduled for Aug. 14-19 in Calgary.

Rose, fiancée on reality TV

NEW YORK -- Pete Rose is taking a swing at his own reality TV show.

Cable's TLC network says it has started production on an unscripted series to chronicle the lives of baseball's all-time hitting leader and his fiancée, model Kiana Kim.

The series will follow the couple as they plan a wedding and go through the process of blending their respective families. The show is so far untitled.

The network announced Wednesday that TLC has ordered five episodes, to air late this year.

The 71-year-old Rose agreed to a lifetime ban from baseball in 1989 after an investigation concluded he bet on games when he was the Cincinnati Reds manager. The ban has left him ineligible for induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He leads baseball with 4,256 career hits.
