Power restored to Brandon University

**UPDATE**

Brandon University is back online after power outages knocked out electricity to the school earlier today.

Brandon University and about 200 other customers have lost power in the city.

The outage is believed to be caused by hoar ice on the lines.

Earlier today Manitoba hydro said power was lost in the Carberry area.

Crews worked in the area to replace a line that had been snapped due to ice build-up.

"We had a broken wire on one of the 115,000 volt lines that feeds that station," Scott Powell of Manitoba Hydro said. "Service went out at about 10:15 this morning."

Powell said service was restored around noon to most customers, but there were still some sporadic outages particularly in the northern part of the tow.

"There is a couple of inches of hoar frost on the lines and we have to make sure it is off to ensure reliability and public safety," Powell said.

The outage affected 1760 customers in the area.

Powell said there may also be some sporadic outages today in the Dauphin and Grandview areas as crews roll and melt ice in those areas as well.
