The Selinger government has introduced legislation to regulate agencies that provide temporary workers to employers.
Bill 50 (The Protection for Temporary Help Workers Act) would require such agencies to be licensed by Manitoba Labour and Immigration.
It would also prohibit temporary help agencies from charging workers fees for the services they provide. And it would bar temp agencies from attempting to restrict employees from obtaining permanent employment.
As well, it would entitle a temporary employee to notice of termination -- or wages in lieu of notice.
The legislation, if passed by the legislature, would come into force Oct. 1.
