Smoke killed women in fire

POLICE say smoke inhalation was the cause of death for two women who died in a Winnipeg Beach fire.

On Sunday, 21-year-old Alyssa Bernardin of the RM of Armstrong and 21-year-old Lisa Mosher of Gimli died following a house fire in Winnipeg Beach.

Gimli RCMP said crews were dispatched to the fire about 6:30 a.m. Sunday. Three people were inside the house but only one, an 18-year-old man, was able to escape, RCMP said.

He was initially taken to the hospital in Gimli, then to Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg to be treated for his injuries.

On Wednesday, Gimli RCMP said autopsies confirmed the cause of death of both women has been attributed to smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
