Perimeter crash kills young mother of 2

A Morden woman who died in an early-morning crash on the Perimeter Highway on Sunday was the mother of two young children, family members told the Free Press Monday.

Samantha Schlichting, 21, died after the 2001 Buick Century she was driving was struck head-on by a 2006 Chevrolet pick-up truck, which police say was driving the wrong way down the highway’s westbound lane about 1.5 kilometres east of St. Anne's Road at 4 a.m. Sunday.

The collision also left Schlichting’s passenger, a 23-year-old man, clinging to life in hospital.

On Monday, family remembered Schlichting as a bubbly young woman who doted on her two children, who are about one and three years old. She was a popular student at Sanford Collegiate during her teens, they recalled.

The driver of the Chevy was not injured in the crash. He is now facing drunk-driving charges.

David Delisle, 49, of Grande Pointe has been charged with impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm, refusing to give a breathalyser test and possessing marijuana resin.

He was scheduled to make his first appearance in court on Monday.
