Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange

TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (15,226.34, up 145.02 points):

BlackBerry Ltd. (TSX:BB). Communication equipment, services. Down $1.42, or 11.7 per cent, to $10.72 on 7.8 million shares. The stock plummeted after Apple and IBM said they were teaming up to develop enterprise apps and cloud services on mobile, while infringing on BlackBerry’s mobile device management territory.

Athabasca Oil Corp. (TSX:ATH). Oil and gas. Down 39 cents, or 5.50 per cent, to $6.70 on seven million shares.

Twin Butte Energy Ltd. (TSX:TBE). Oil and gas. Down three cents, or 1.73 per cent, to $1.70 on 5.7 million shares.

Adherex Technologies Inc. (TSX:AHX.WT). Biotechnology. Down 0.5 cents, or 50 per cent, to 0.5 cents on five million shares.

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Miner. Unchanged at $2.92 on 4.8 million shares.

Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp. (TSX:PRE). Oil and gas. Up 78 cents, or 4.05 per cent, to $20.03 on 4.5 million shares.

Toronto Venture Exchange (1,009.29, up 2.72 points):

Petroamerica Oil Corp. (TSXV:PTA). Oil and gas. Up 0.5 cents, or 1.47 per cent, to 34.5 cents on four million shares.

Corsa Coal Corp. (TSXV:CSO). Coal. Up 7.5 cents, or 55.56 per cent, to 21 cents on 3.9 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX). Miner. Up 57 cents, or 2.89 per cent, to $20.28 on 7.4 million shares. The company shook up its executive suite on Wednesday, announcing the departure of president and CEO Jamie Sokalsky. The gold miner said Sokalsky will be replaced by senior executive vice-president Kelvin Dushnisky and executive vice-president Jim Gowans who will serve as co-presidents of the company. There are not immediate plans to name a new CEO.

Onex Corp. (TSX:OCX). Private equity. Down 19 cents, or 0.30 per cent, to $63.66 on 224,511 shares. Onex is increasing its stake in the insurance sector by acquiring New Jersey-based York Risk Services Group Inc. for US$1.33 billion. York Risk Services provides property, casualty and workers' compensation insurance to more than 6,300 clients in the United States.
