Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets

TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Tuesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,660.44 up 9.57 points):

Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Insurer. Up six cents, or 0.40 per cent, at $14.90 on 7,070,519 shares. The financials sector rose 0.15 per cent to finish the day at 200.16 points.

BlackBerry (TSX:BB). Wireless technology. Down two cents, or 0.15 per cent, at $13.46 on 5,803,912 shares. The stock dipped a day after major competitor Samsung announced that it's moving into the corporate smartphone market — an area once dominated by the company formerly known as Research In Motion.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Up three cents, or 0.75 per cent, at $4.01 on 5,419,356 shares.

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Miner. Up four cents, or 1.28 per cent, at $3.17 on 5,417,490 shares.

Nexen Inc. (TSX:NXY). Oil and gas. Up four cents, or 0.14 per cent, at $28.19 on 4,668,241 shares. Chinese state-owned firm CNOOC Ltd. announced late Monday that it has completed its $15.1-billion takeover of Nexen. All of the company's existing assets as well as CNOOC's North and Central American operations will be managed out of Nexen's Calgary headquarters.

Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU). Oil and gas. Down 45 cents, or 1.43 per cent, at $30.92 on 4,615,111 shares.

TSX Venture Exchange (1,131.91 down 9.09 points):

Northern Superior Resources Inc. (TSXV:SUP). Gold explorer. Up half a cent, or 11.11 per cent, at five cents on 5,010,511 shares.

Canada Strategic Metals Inc. (TSXV:CJC). Gas explorer. Up a penny, or 10 per cent, at 11 cents on 3,799,666 shares. The Vancouver-based company said that testing at its La Loutre project in Quebec showed "medium- to jumbo-size graphite flakes." Graphite is used for lithium ion batteries, fuel cells and nuclear and solar power. Canada Strategic said that more characterization results are still expected from the project.

Bank of Montreal (TSX:BMO). Bank. Up 82 cents, or 1.30 per cent, at $63.75 on 2,578,868 shares. The bank boosted its quarterly dividend by two cents to 74 cents per share. First-quarter results beat analyst estimates, although its profit and revenue were both lower than a year before. Net income dropped to $1.05 billion or $1.53 per share from $1.12 billion or $1.63 per share a year ago. Total revenue fell by one per cent to $4.08 billion.

Calfrac Well Services Ltd. (TSX:CFW). Oilfield services. Down $1.36, or 5.19 per cent, at $24.85 on 752,989 shares. The Calgary-based company reported a nearly 90 per cent plunge in fourth-quarter profit due to a significant decline in revenue, which totalled $367.5 million, down from $490 million in the same 2011 period.

First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR). Miner. Down 38 cents, or 2.14 per cent, at $17.41 on 607,103 shares. 2013 output at the Vancouver-based miner will climb 40 per cent higher than in 2012 as fourth-quarter results improved. First Majestic's profit grew to US$22.4 million compared with year-earlier $21.3 million while revenue increased nearly 20 per cent.

Maple Leaf Foods Inc. (TSX:MFI). Food processor. Up 58 cents, or 4.40 per cent, at $13.76 on 139,988 shares. The company will raise prices due to cost increases caused by the droughts last year. Maple Leaf also announced lower restructuring costs and higher gross margins helped the food processor book a more than six-fold increase in its fourth-quarter profit. Revenue was slightly below the average at $1.2 billion, down 3.3 per cent.
