N.S. battery maker expanding operations with provincial payroll rebate

SPRINGHILL, N.S. - A battery manufacturing company in Nova Scotia will expand its operations with financial help from the province.

The government has announced a four-year payroll rebate for Surrette Battery in Springhill, to a maximum of just under $400,000.

The company, which has a full-time workforce of 50, is planning a building expansion and equipment upgrades.

Surrette produces batteries that store solar energy for use during power outages.

The batteries are vital for markets such as Mexico, Haiti and the Dominican Republic, where power is often lost up to six times a day.
