5-Pin Bowling - Rusnak on a roll in Regina

Westman’s Brad Rusnak made a lot of noise in Regina on the weekend of Feb 23-24 at the annual Regina Classic 5 Pin Cash Tournament.

Out of the 147 who entered the event, Brad finished 19th with an eight-game total of 2154 (270 average), placing him in the Top 32 Double Knock-Out Playoff picture.

He battled hard but came up short in his first round A-side match against Matt Schultz from Edmonton, and found himself in trouble trailing by 87 points after two (of three) games in his first round B-side match against Crystal Hiibner of Regina.

Brad then found his groove, finishing game three with nine strikes in a row and a 393 game, to overcome the deficit, win by 20, and advance all the way through to the B-side final four, where he went shot for shot through three games with newcomer Jordan Rachar, also of Regina.

Brad needed a strike in the final frame of the match, but unfortunately left a solid right corner pin, and was mathmatically eliminated from the match.

This was 20-year-old Jordan’s first ever cash event, and he made an incredible run all the way to the championship final, only to come up short against 2011 Masters National Champion Lonny Akers of Prince Albert.

Brad’s run netted him over $1,100 in prize money for the weekend. It was a great tuneup as he prepares with the rest of the Westman squad for the provincial championships to be held at St. James Lanes in Winnipeg March 28-30.

Brandon Bowlers of the Week were Eddie Kopacz (+150), Ingrid Pierunek (+119), and Glenys Stanley (+119), all of the Monday Night Provincial Mixed League. And another honourable mention going out to Garry Hamm for throwing a 418 during the Monday Night Mixed League, matching Westman’s Wes Rushton with the zone’s high single game so far this season!
