5 Pin Bowling - Whalen finishes first

The Westman Zone Championships for the Manitoba 220 Event took place in Carberry on Jan. 1112. In this event, bowlers with averages of 220 and under compete in a Pins Over Average event, and four four-player teams are then composed to advance to the provincial round, this year being held in Minnedosa/Neepawa on Feb. 22. The top two teams from the provincial round advance to the National Championships, April 2427 in Winnipeg.

Brandon's Jessica Whalen started strong with a 277 game, and never looked back, finishing with a +177 total and finishing first overall in the zone. Joining Jessica on the ladies’ side is Linda Baker (also from Brandon), Dana Clark, Kathy Reynolds, Gloria Mott, and Linda Yablonski (Carberry), Linda Enns (Killarney), and Karen Wear (Boissevain).

On the men's side, Rob Orchard (bowling in Carberry and Brandon) finished first with a +156 total. He will be joined by Thomas Harper and Ian Mackie (Brandon), Dave Unrau (Boissevain), Lucas Clark and Frank Aarts (Carberry), and Alvin Howarth and Blaine Williamson (Killarney).

Coaches for the event this year are Rayann Paddock, Victor Lavich, Gary Everard, and Brad Rusnak.

Westman has faired very well in this event, advancing teams to the national round in each of the last two seasons. Good luck to everyone this time around and here's to extending the streak!
