Hats off to the Rockin’ the Fields of Minnedosa board for putting on another fantastic weekend full of great shows.
Here’s hoping it was a success after all the I’s are dotted and T’s are crossed. With the ninth annual rock festival now in the books, we can now look ahead to RFM 10 with hopes of even more music-filled memorable moments.
For me, one of the highlights from this August Long had to be Saga’s Sunday night set. This show was the first opportunity for Saga fans to see them perform in Manitoba since they opened for Rush in 1982 at the arena.
As luck would have it, not only was I going to be able to see Saga in action on the big stage, I was asked if I’d like to intro the band. Umm… lemme think. Yes!
Talk about a magical moment — it completed the perfect hat-trick for any Saga fan.
Earlier that night when they were just wrapping up a meet-and-greet session with some lucky fans, thanks to RFM promoter Tom Crook, I had a chance meeting with the guys that included a great chat with the group’s co-founder, bassist Jim Crichton.
Earlier in the week, my Saga hat-trick started with a fun conversation with their other co-founder, vocalist Michael Sadler. He had just rejoined the group after a four-year hiatus to record their 20th studio album, "20/20".
