Attention all aspiring and working musicians in the Westman area: Do you ever wish you were busier doing what you love doing?

If your passion is playing your music in front of people and you’d like to pursue that passion a little more regularly while increasing your audience, perhaps a Manitoba Music Musicworks Workshop is what you require.

Hosted in the Manitoba Music Resource Centre in Winnipeg, MusicWorks presents experienced music industry veterans, hot new trendsetters, and tastemakers speaking on the most important topics for today’s artists and music industry entrepreneurs.

This season, MusicWorks will focus on timely topics such as effective live performance, publicity and release planning, producing viral videos, DIY touring, co-writing, merchandising, and more.

The series brings to Manitoba some of the most influential music professionals from across Canada and beyond, including: publicity mavens Tonni Maruyama of Anti-/Epitaph Records (Tom Waits, The Weakerthans) and Joanne Setterington of Indoor Recess (Arcade Fire, Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes, Metric); Nylon’s Micah Barnes; Bandzoogle’s artist relations rep Dave Cool; the team behind acclaimed recording act Library Voices’ success — Nevado Records’ Nick Bernal, Freshly Pressed PR’s Julie Booth, and The Agency Group’s Eli Klein; and more.

MusicWorks will also draw on the considerable expertise of Manitoba-based pros like Pocketgigs’ Chris Gaudry, Comeback Kid’s Jeremy Hiebert; and songwriter/producer Chris Burke-Gaffney.

Most workshops will take place in Winnipg at the Manitoba Music Industry Resource Centre, 1-376 Donald Street. Perhaps you can arrange a road trip with your band or a group of like-minded individuals on your contacts list?

In the meantime, you should know that space is limited and advance registration is strongly encouraged. Please take the time to peruse the following workshops to see which best suits your needs.

Frank McGwire is a radio personality and booster of the music scene in Brandon and Westman.
