The countdown is on for the North American Belgian Championship.
The Keystone Centre in Brandon is preparing to host NABC VII, North America’s biggest Belgian show, from July 17 through July 21.
Three hundred of this continent’s top Belgian horses will compete for more than $152,000 in prize money.
Five full days of competition showcasing the muscle and majesty of the Belgian horse will combine the excitement of North America’s top horses and horsemen with first-class entertainment, in a program designed for the whole family.
A Canadian icon, the RCMP Musical Ride, will appear July 18 and 19 with both afternoon and evening performances. Thirty-two horses and riders perform a variety of cavalry drills to music in a colourful Canadian tradition that is renowned world-wide.
On Friday, July 20, and Saturday, the show schedule includes the ever-popular heavy horse pull competition. This amazing display of power will include light, middle and heavy-weight classes and welcomes a world-champion competitor.
Since the mid-1980s, NABC has alternated between Canada and the United States every four years, providing a venue for Belgian enthusiasts to show the best of the best in the breed.
Belgian breeders and exhibitors from across the continent plan their programs years in advance in the hope of having the next great champion crowned at this show.
NABC was last held in Brandon in 1996 and excitement is running high for the hosting of this unique event at the Keystone Centre again.
Tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster for daily or weekly passes.
